Your Political Party Is Not Your Savior

It’s gotten worse and it’s everywhere.

I was going to start off this article by saying, “Well, it’s started!”, but upon refection I would have to say that “it” didn’t just start, it’s just gotten worse. What am I talking about? Political fussing and fuming madness.

The signs are up in the yards and bill boards, the ads are all over the media:newspapers, magazines, social media, the internet, TV…you name it, they are everywhere. And, of course, there is the worst part of it all. The true cesspools of humanity: Youtube comment sections, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. If you want to see a bunch of ignorant, confused, unqualified, hate filled people at their worst and arguing about things they know next to nothing about, go there.

Don’t get me started on the so called “celebrities”.

My favorites have to be all the entertainers (I don’t use the word “celebrity” because it makes them sound like way more than they are). The actors, musicians, sports figures, etc. who think because they act, play music, sing or play games they are some how qualified to tell everyone else how to think and what to believe about politics and life in general. The very people who can’t stay off of drugs or alcohol, can’t keep a marriage together for longer than 10 minutes, have so much Botox and plastic surgery they become more chemical than human, and do what they do largely because they crave attention and admiration from other people because of mental issues they haven’t dealt with…those people are trying to tell everyone else how to live life the right way. Even sadder is the fact that there are plenty of people out there of low enough mental function to actually listen to them. But I digress a little and will write a separate article about this subject).

No party is as good and correct as they think they are.

The other thing I find fascinating in all this political mire is the fact that every party thinks that they are the “right” party. They are the party of high and noble thinking and behavior. They believe that their party will make this world a better place while the other party is seen as evil and destructive.  Problem is, they can’t all be right!  Not only are they wrong in having such black and white thinking, but they are all actually lying to themselves and to other people by claiming these things are true.   The fact is, no party is looking out for everyone in this country. They are looking out for their own interests. In other words, they are all operating from a place of selfishness and greed. They want their particular interests promoted and protected and if that means having to suppress and oppress the interests of others, so be it. Each party presents itself as the savior of their members because they are pushing their preferred agenda at the expense of the interests of the members of the other party(s). THAT is selfish, greedy and wrong and it will not lead to a better nation because, no matter what party is in office, there are going to be unhappy,  in some way harmed and ignored, people.

Politics will not save us.

Fact is, politics are not going to save the nation or the people, no matter what party is voted in because people are not capable of rightly and fairly governing other people. If you are a Christian, this should come as no surprise to you. God says that the human heart is selfish and evil. It looks out for itself above the interests of others.

Lets look at some Bible verses.

The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked; who can know it?  Jeremiah 17:9

For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemys, pride, foolishness: All these things come from within and defile a man.  Mark 7:20-23

What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You crave what you do not have… James 4:1-2

No one is good except God.  Luke 18:19

As it is written, there is no one righteous, not even one. Romans 3:10

If this is the condition of the unregenerated human heart, does it really seem like a good idea to look to other people to tell you how to think and live or to take care of you? Do you really believe all those wealthy politicians have your best interests in mind…even those in your own party? Do out of touch wealthy entertainers really care about you at all as they preach to you from their mansions and ivory towers? The answer should be obvious.

How should we be acting?

How does God say we are supposed to behave? For one, He says we are to look out for the interests of others, not just our own.

Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.  Philippians 2:4

He also says we are not to look to other people, including “Princes”, or any other human, for our security.

Put not your trust in princes, in mortal man, who cannot save.  Psalm 146:3

Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?  Isaiah 2:22

We are supposed to only look to God for our protection and needs. Not men. Why? Because people are not fit to rule other people.

They got what they asked for…and so do we.

Fact is, in the Old Testament, God ruled Israel. He worked through men like Moses, and Samuel, but God was the One actually ruling, not them. A time came, however, when the Israelites asked Samuel to tell God that they wanted a human King like the nations around them had. (See Samuel 8) They no longer wanted to be ruled by God. They were warned of the consequences of that. Instead of being ruled by a kind, loving, all knowing, all powerful Being who had their best interests in mind, they would be ruled by a faulty, selfish, weak human who would tax them heavily to pay for his lifestyle and send them off to fight wars and die to protect his kingdom and interests. The Israelites still insisted that they wanted a human king. God granted their request and it was all down hill from there.

People suffer under human rulers.

We  suffer under our “Kings” and “Princes”, don’t we? Our politicians/leaders tend to live lavish lifestyles while the working people are taxed to pay for everything. We are sent off to fight wars to protect the elites interests while they sit safely in their large homes surrounded with security guards. They, of course, claim the wars are to protect our country, but it doesn’t take much examination to figure out that usually is not really the case.

That’s not all.

Okay, so we know that people are not fit to rule other people and will, in fact, inevitably take advantage of, or even abuse, them. But it gets better. Though these people are in places of power, they are not even in control. God is. He never surrendered what belongs to Him to any weak human beings. This is His world and His creation and He will not allow humans to have free rule. (If He had, we would have all been destroyed a long time ago…and so would the planet and everything on it!) As far as politics/rulers go, He controls who gets into office, who leaves, and what they do while they are in there. Not the voters, not other politicians. God. Don’t believe me? Lets have a look at some verses.

The Most High is sovereign over all the kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone He wishes and sets over them the lowliest of people.  Daniel 4:17

He removes kings and establishes kings. Daniel 2:21

God determines everything.

God puts all people who are in positions of power in those positions. Not other people. God. Your vote did not put some politician in office. If God didn’t want him in that position, he wouldn’t be there. Period. God determines the outcome of all things, including elections. Lets look some more.

We may throw the dice, but the Lord determines how they fall. Proverbs 16:33

God works all things according to the counsel of His will. Ephesians 1:11

God determines everything that happens Everything.

They are His servants.

Not only does He determine who gets elected, but the person then does God’s bidding while he is in office. Lets look.

The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, like the rivers of water, He turns it wherever He wishes. Proverbs 21:1

…rulers are servants of God… Romans 13:6

Don’t like who is in office? Tough!

You don’t like the person who is ruling? Tough. This is God’s plan being worked out and HE decides who rules, not stupid, selfish human beings and if you are insulting or fighting against the person in power, you are fighting against God. Thats a dangerously arrogant thing to be doing.  Here are a few verses.

Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God and those who exist are established by God. Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God. Romans 13:1

We are not in control.

People have been fighting against our president here in the USA since he was elected in 2016. They don’t want to accept the fact that he is president when they feel that he has far too many personal issues and disagrees so strongly with some people’s beliefs and values. They have been trying to get him removed even before he won the election! It didn’t work. Why? Because God wanted Him there for whatever purposes He is working out. People can cry and fuss and fight and plot all they want. It will not work. He will remain in office until GOD says he is to be removed. That is God’s decision, not human’s.

The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generation. Psalm 33:10-11

He punishes and He blesses.

No matter what the people want, God is the one who controls the elections. And just like He did with Israel, He will put certain people in office when He wants to bless a nation and he will put other people in charge when He wants to punish a nation.  (See Isaiah 3) And there is nothing you can do to stop it.

We should focus on our own behavior.

Our job is to make sure we are right with God, not try to oust God’s appointed rulers in an effort to “fix”  something God does not want, and will not allow to be, “fixed”. We, as individuals, need to make sure we are looking to God for guidance on how to live and for our safety and security, not to other people. We shouldn’t be bad mouthing and plotting against people He has put into office. We should be concentrating on looking to Him and living as He told us to live. If every individual did that, we would see a vast improvement in our country and in our world. Until then, we will continue to suffer.

We should look to our true Savior, not politicians (or the messed up and confused entertainers!).

In summary, politicians are not our saviors. No one party is good and right. They are all full of selfish, arrogant, faulty people. No person and no party has all the right answers. They are ALL too imperfect and sinful to be able to rule over other people rightly. No matter who gets in,  things will happen that some people don’t like and some people will be hurt in some manner. That is life.

There is no need for all this anger and animosity towards the “other” political party(s). No good comes of all the nasty commenting and tweeting.  None of that is going to influence the election in the least. (It is also very un-Christ like behavior!) No matter what people do or say, no matter how someone acts, no matter how much and how well someone campaigns, no matter how any people show up to vote, no matter who “interferes” with the election…GOD will be the one deciding the results. He will determine who gets in, not people.

As a Christian, we should find great comfort in that. We, frail, faulty human beings, do not have to make a decision we really aren’t fit to make ( Honestly, who among us really knows everything we need to know to make a good decision in this area?!)  The most intelligent, powerful, loving Being in existence will be deciding this election, just as He decided the last one. So, we should all trust our true Savior…the One who actually does care about each of us and our interests and has the power to do something about it. We Need to relax and watch Him work for the good of all.
